SCHOOL PROGRAMME

The children continue to have regular Eternus classes 5 days a week. Two of the schools conduct mid-term tests and that preparation had been the focus over a period of two weeks.

TEACHERS MEETING

The School Team met with the teachers at Satya School and St Thomas School to

[if !supportLists]- receive academic and behavioural feedback on each child to help us fill in any gaps

[if !supportLists]- provide the teachers our observations about the children where appropriate

PARENTS MEETING

Child Assessment

Our practice is to meet with the parents, once the Mid-term test results are out, to discuss their wards’ progress. The process was followed this time around and, in keeping with need to actively monitor the weaker of the senior students, those children of Std. XI & XII from Satya School who didn’t do well in the tests were called, along with their parents, to meet with our Trustees.

COLLEGE PROGRAM

The Eternus sessions for the College students continue to be held across the week at different timings to account for the individual college schedules. The focus is on spoken English, group discussions, computer training in MS-Word and exercises in creativity. One of our students, Mr Kamalakannan – doing his second year of B.C.A - was helped with his prep for a campus interview he was attending.

PARENTS MONTHLY MEETING

Conducted in July, the standard format was changed to enable greater interaction.

We conducted a presentation that showed different categories of children and their behavioural symptoms (based on what we have observed, for both school & college children) and encouraged the parents to come up with ways to deal with children in each of those categories. The session concluded with suggestions that we urged them to implement at home to help the children

PARENTS WORKSHOP - FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

We conducted our annual Financial Status Study that attempts to understand, across families, patterns of borrowing money, debts, spending and management of income. This is also to gauge the shift, if any, in the family’s financial status since they joined Eternus.

This information was used as input into our annual workshop on Financial Management, which was conducted in August. We were graciously helped by two Senior members of the Microfinance division of World Vision India who spoke on various aspects of debt management, savings and managing finances. This was followed by an exercise where each family spent one-on-one time with the instructors who advised them on their specific situations and answered their queries.

MOVEMENT DAY IN CHENNAI

Movement Day was hosted by the Chennai Transformation Network (CTN) for 1,000 Christians leaders in the city representing diverse transformational movements from various spheres.

Eternus was given an opportunity to present our work at one of the sessions, where Mr. Christo made the presentation, as part of a panel discussion. The event highlighted some of the diverse social transformation work that was being undertaken across the city targeting marginalized communities, urban poor and those in other spheres.

GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS AT OUR PARTNER SCHOOL

One of our three partners schools - The St. Thomas Matriculation Higher Secondary School - celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its founding recently with a grand event on September 11th that was presided over by Prof. P. J. Kurien, H’ble Deputy Speaker of the Rajya Sabha..

We have been partners with this school for the last decade and the occasion was a matter of great pride for us, too.

Our Trustees presented the principal, Mrs. Shirley A Zac, with a plaque from the Eternus Foundation on the occasion.

FELICITATING ONE OF OUR STUDENT ADVISORS

We were delighted that one of our Eternus student counsellors, Mr. G.J. Manohar, Headmaster of the MCC Sr. Secondary School, received the prestigious National Award for Teachers 2017 from the Hon’ble Vice President of India.

Mr Manohar, along with his wife, have long been supporters of our mission through their sessions with our senior students on life issues.

Our trustees felicitated him at his office the week after he got the award.
